Hydrogen Purification through a Membrane–Cryogenic Integrated Process: A 3 E’s (Energy, Exergy, and Economic) Assessment

Hydrogen (H2) is known for its clean energy characteristics. Its separation and purification to produce high-purity H2 becoming essential promoting a economy. There are several technologies, such as pressure swing adsorption, membrane, cryogenic, which can be adopted H2; however, each standalone technology has own pros cons. Unlike technology, the integration of technologies shown significant potential achieving high purity with recovery. In this study, membrane–cryogenic process was integrated separate via desublimation carbon dioxide. The proposed designed, simulated, optimized in Aspen Hysys. results showed that separated 99.99% purity. analysis revealed net-specific consumption 2.37 kWh/kg. exergy membranes multi-stream heat exchangers were major contributors destruction. Furthermore, calculated total capital investment 816.2 m$. This could beneficial development
